Pastor Jim Butler
Jim Butler was born and raised in Long Beach, California. After serving four years in the US Air Force, he was saved by the grace of God in Palmdale, California. He joined the Palmdale Reformed Baptist Church and received training for the gospel ministry under the mentorship of Dr. Richard Barcellos. In 1997, he was sent out as a church-planter to Chilliwack, B.C. and has since served as the pastor of the Free Grace Baptist Church. His formal theological education is through Whitefield Theological Seminary where he earned the Master of Divinity and the Master of Theology degrees.
Pastor Butler also serves on the Theology Committee of the Association of Reformed Baptist Churches of America (ARBCA) and is an associate editor of the Journal of the Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies.
He is happily married to Rebecca, has five children, and seven grandchildren.
Pastor Cameron Porter
Cameron Porter was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada and raised in Abbotsford – a border city 50 kilometers to the south-east. He was raised by two very loving parents, growing up in the world of Roman Catholicism. After 26 years of living in unbelief – a stranger to the saving grace and knowledge of Christ – God saved him in the summer of 2002.
Immediately following conversion, and with a desire to get involved in gospel ministry, he began to read as much as he could about his newly granted faith. In 2005, after a few stops along the way, Cameron arrived at Free Grace Baptist Church in Chilliwack, bringing his family under the faithful preaching of Pastor Jim Butler. Cameron joined the ministerial training program, started by Pastor Butler, and became a member of FGBC in 2006.
After three years of studying various theological disciplines under Pastor Butler’s instruction and mentorship, Cameron was ordained an elder of Free Grace Baptist Church in January of 2008. He is currently enrolled in the distance learning program at Whitefield Theological Seminary, seeking to eventually complete the Master of Divinity program.
Cameron is happily married to his wife Tracy, and has been blessed with three wonderful children – Jordan, Hannah, and Maryssa.
Mike Kirkpatrick (Pastoral Intern)
Mike Kirkpatrick was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. In the spring of 2008, he was saved by the grace of God through reading the Bible. After several years as an electrician apprentice, Mike had a desire to pursue the Christian ministry. He began attending Free Grace Baptist Church in the summer of 2012, where he was further exposed to Reformed Theology and came to love and embrace it. In the summer of 2014, he was commissioned by Free Grace to pursue theological training, so he and his wife moved to California to begin three years of studies there.
His formal training includes a Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies from Trinity Western University (2013), a Masters of Divinity from Westminster Seminary California (2017), and a diploma from the Institute of Reformed Baptist Studies (2017). Mike’s goal is to help start a church plant in Surrey alongside Free Grace.
Mike has been happily married to his wife, Jessica, since 2011.
